If you had daylight savings, I hope you enjoyed that extra hour of sleep as we welcome November with excitement!

Not only did we celebrate International Kidpreneurs Day on November 1st, but we also have National Philanthropy Day on the 15th and National Entrepreneurs Day on the 19th. There’s gotta be a reason they’re all packed into one month, right?

It’s because this is Community month, where we focus on kindness, purpose, and inspiring our kids to make a difference in their homes, schools, and communities.

💡Did you know that the majority of youth volunteer more than adults? That’s right! It’s a powerful reminder of the incredible spirit our young ones have—and just how much they’re inspired to help and give back when given the chance.

As Dr. Maria Montessori so beautifully put it, “The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.” By encouraging them to give back and connect with others, we help them realize that making a difference is part of their responsibility too—and one that brings rewards beyond measure.

This week's edition will cover our best tips to nurturing volunteering activities with your kids, including our free "Volunteer Encouragement Guide for Parents", a hands-on tool to start conversations about community and caring. And with Thanksgiving in the US around the corner, it’s a perfect opportunity to bring that spirit of giving alive.

Now, let’s get ready to inspire our kids—ready, set, volunteer!

Why Encouraging Youth to Volunteer is a Game-Changer

As parents, we often hear generalizations about today’s youth—but the reality is that many young people are actively contributing to causes and communities.

Maria Guzman, an Extension Adolescent Specialist, explains that when youth volunteer, they not only feel more connected but also help build a positive, thriving community. And it’s not just the community that benefits; volunteering can do wonders for young people’s confidence, skills, and personal growth.

I was captivated by Maria's insights into what inspires (and discourages) young people to volunteer, and I think you will find them helpful too. Discover how you can inspire your kids to get involved! Read More About Fostering Inclusive Volunteering and Service Learning.
